Ponderings.
I find myself increasingly concerned by the number of people who see nothing outwith their significant other.
I would like to add that this is in no way a dig at relationships, and by no means a dig at any of the couples I spend time with. Love is a beautiful thing, and if you want to spend time with that one person that really gets you, then that is brilliant. Share the same interests, have the same hobbies, have an absolutely amazing time together. But don’t lose sight of your own interests and who you are.
I feel that at this age, we’re finding out who we really are; our likes, dislikes, passions and inspirations. And of course, if you and your significant other share these things, then that’s great and will ultimately bring you closer. But changing all of these to fit with that person and losing sight of who you were before you were with them is not the way to go about this. Of course, you may be persuaded by their opinions or grow to love that band that they’re always harping on about because it makes you think of them, but to drop your personality to fit with theirs and spend every waking hour with them just doesn’t seem right to me.
I realise that I may be barking up the wrong tree. But it’s just how I feel.
